London reports a government brokered settlement ending the railway strike. David Lloyd George led attacks for conciliation with managers and workers. A five member joint committee will probe the 1907 conciliation net and potential rate changes. By nightfall services were returning to normal and ships and dockers await settlements.

Moose Jaw reports a heart rending accident on a farm twelve miles north of the city. While parents were away, James Staples three children aged 18, 12, and 6 wandered to deep water and drowned after being forbidden to play near the pond. The mother later found the bodies during a pond search.
In Lisbon on August 21 an attempt to free 400 political prisoners at Limocuro failed after a mob attacked sentries. Troops arrived as gates were torn, five prisoners escaped, and insubordinate army sergeants met in Balem with anti government speeches. The war minister dispatched cavalry to the scene.
Five mounted police passed through the city yesterday and six more are en route bound for Macleod to guard strikebreakers as miners prepare to reopen mines. Alberta and Eastern British Columbia coal strike has lasted over five months with no violence. about eight thousand workers are idle, and operators claim peaceful conduct though tensions grow as talks on a new wage schedule resume.
John Jenson of Whitla district is held at the Mounted Police barracks on a charge of shooting at R. J. Emerson with intent to kill. Emerson escaped injury but reported the incident occurred August 8. Jenson, arrested by Corporal Green, resided in Whitla and was brought to the city for a hearing expected late today.
Report notes Liberal committee rooms set up in the Royal Bowling Alleys on Railway Street. Election workers and AML electors expected to frequent the site as a local political hub.
