Premier Alison Redford told CHQR that provincial estimates show well over 5 billion will be needed to rebuild flood damaged infrastructure after the Tyne floods. She cited federal help and provincial revenue as components while noting the figure is evolving eight weeks after the disaster.
City council voted 9-0 to cover sewage backflow preventers in flooded or flood-prone homes and seek provincial reimbursement. The decision, praised by about 36 members of the Harlow Community Association, follows steps toward a broader flood mitigation plan including a seven kilometre berm system and other measures costing over 20 million.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced plans to prorogue Parliament after a turbulent session marked by Senate expense scandals.
