Union Seeks Wage Boost For Calgary Dairies Workers

The Teamsters Local 987 seeks a $25 a month raise for about 450 employees at two Calgary dairies and plants in Red Deer Lethbridge Medicine Hat. Notices have been sent to open bargaining before contracts expire Nov 1. The union also pushes for six day delivery with a five day week, ending the six day requires during holidays. Current pay is $228 monthly plus commission for drivers and $225 monthly for plant staff.

Double Flying Pay for Armed Services Slashed

Defence Minister Campney announced a doubled aircrew flying pay across active and reserve forces. The new graduated scale starts at 75 dollars monthly and rises to 150 dollars, retroactive to July 1, covering aircrew in the RCAF auxiliary and regular forces as well as aircrew in the Navy and Army. In Kimberley British Columbia the Medicine Hat Gun Club captured both individual and squad titles at the 20th annual Elephant Shoot. L C Bracken earned High Gun while Lloyd Bracken dominated the singles event despite double handicaps.
