Delegates representing about 13,000 Bolsover Company workers in Nottinghamshire accept a seven and a half hour day at old wages, a compromise between seven and eight hour demands. Other Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire pits prepare to reopen on the same terms as Bolsover.

Wallace Cloyes Gaines was convicted of murdering his 22 year old daughter Sylvia Gaines in Seattle on June 16. The jury sentenced him to death after four hours of deliberation. An appeal was announced.

All Roman Catholics involved in alleged uprisings in the republic were freed except leaders Senor Josefina Novoa Senora Luz F Deperchez and Senorita Paz Gomez Linares and eight men detained as plots. The releases followed General Estrada’s movement in California.
Chairman T Murray of the Medicine Hat School Board refutes claims that Alberta trained teachers were passed over for vacancies. He cites records showing about eighty percent of local teachers were Alberta trained and explains vacancies or qualifications justified any non local appointments. Edmonton Aug 20 Arthur Meighen Prime Minister of Canada addressed 4500 people in the livestock arena at the exhibition grounds last night. He attacked W L Mackenzie King saying the aim was to control the federal election machinery and place a Baldy Robb in every constituency. The crowd reacted to protests over the Robb budget and tariff issues while Meighen defended protection and West policy.
Canterbury England August 30 Alphonse Francis Austin Smith was arraigned on the capital charge for the alleged attempted murder of John Thomas Derham at Stella Maris villa and remanded for a week. Smith is grandson of the late Hugh Ryan of Canadian Pacific Railway building fame and Derham is from a well known British family. Derham was shot after a quarrel over attentions paid to Mrs Smith formerly Catherine White.
The body of Hinckley a United States customs officer at Hyder Alaska was recovered after a fatal fall from a 300 foot cliff while climbing in the mountains at the head of the Portland Canal. He is to be shipped to New Jersey for interment.
Sir Francois Lemieux releases the royal commission report on the Margaret case and customs and excise in Ottawa. He notes Quebec hearings cleared Ernest Lapointe and Jacques Bureau of all grave accusations regarding joy cruises, urging a speedy truth and closing the matter.
