London reports an agreement between Sir Auckland Geddes and railway unions ending the wage dispute. The government offered 15 shillings daily to locomotive engineers and motormen on electric lines and 11 shillings to firemen, replacing the old wage and war bonus system.
In Montreal on August 20 a mix up emerged over bodies found at Dominion Park from last Sunday's disaster. Dr Ferland believed one body was his son Jean Robert Merlang, but subsequent identifications suggest the carried remains may be Charbonneau, with Antonio Ciccio now suspected as the third man misidentified. Exhumations are planned to confirm identities.
Ottawa August 2 More than 4 800 civil servants volunteered for military service during the war. The Citizen cites civil service war records. many names omitted. railways workers are not included. Nineteen women of the civil service went overseas as nurses.
Ottawa reports General Currie rebutting a supposed returned soldier problem. He calls for business leaders to employ veterans, argues they are assets, and urges flooding the country with positive literature to counter Bolshevik influence. He also notes West Lambton riding contest.
Hon. Arthur Meighen and Hon. James Calder, ministers in Ottawa, will attend a civic luncheon in Medicine Hat on Saturday at 12 30 p m in the basement of the Methodist Church. They will speak on immigration and irrigation policy with limited seats available through the Board of Trade.

Seattle Aug 20 The Shinbu Maru a Japanese freighter reported by wireless at 9 30 am that she had been flogged and was leaking while proceeding to Port Angeles Washington after grounding on the Canadian side of the Juan de Fuca Strait. The Yeomel Meru remained aground on the Race Rocks with both vessels said to have lost their way in a dense fog.
Detroit Aug 19 The general chairman of the United Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes and Railway Shop Clerks approves a new wage proposal calling for about 1 dollar more per man daily, time and a half overtime and seniority promotions. The demand affects all railways in the United States Canada and Central America and involves about 600000 workers with a referendum under way. Union officials estimate 60 percent support the plan and threaten a broad strike if unmet.
The People’s Press association, backing the nonpartisan farm program, endorsed Governor Lynn J. Frazier for president at their annual convention in Vargo North Dakota. The group adopted a second resolution praising the North Dakota legislature’s new publication law and economic program, both passed unanimously.
Bozeman Montana August 20 The sale of the mills and elevators of the Bozeman Milling company to the Montana Flour Mills company of Great Falls is announced for 375000 The Story interests gain stock in the Montana Milling company and T J Story becomes a director W Sweet named manager of Gallatin valley plants with goal to raise capacity from 1000 to 1500 barrels daily Mr Sweet succeeds Charles Vaicenhook president and general manager of the Rerzemyn Milling company
Two teams of horses valued at fourteen hundred dollars were electrocuted on Spacia Avenue bridge in Toronto as they stepped onto the structure. Drivers fled. a bystander was knocked back by the surge. Police and electricians investigated faults in the under-bridge wiring.
New York reports the annual loss in earnings to U S railroads due to prohibition will reach about 250 million dollars. An anti prohibition association says freight rates will rise 506 million to 1 billion dollars yearly to cover this loss and higher labor and other costs. Officials predict at least a 15 percent rate increase.
The town of High River has approved a tax rate of 46 mills, setting the level for municipal revenue. Voters and residents will see how this rate funds services and projects in the coming year.
