Canadian Pacific workers win 15 percent pay raise

An annual agreement between the CPR and its conductors and trainmen yields an average 15 percent raise. The settlement covers Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and Order of Railway Conductors from Fort William to the Pacific coast, effective August 1. Passengers and brakemen see raises to 67–80 dollars monthly. new pay basis is 125 dollars per 5000 miles. Third brakeman dropped, crews now conductor plus two brakemen. The deal, reached amicably after delays, likely to hold.

By laws pass on waterworks gas extensions and tax halt

The by laws were voted on Monday with little public interest. All measures carried including funding through debentures for waterworks and gas extensions and a ten year tax exemption for the Woolen Mills. Vote tallies include 64 for waterworks and 64 for the Woollen Mills with gas listed as against.

Favor Preferential Trade Policy Passed by Montreal Congress

Delegates from across the British Empire at a Montreal session of the Congress of Chambers of Commerce passed a resolution urging a preferential trade policy. The proposal calls for a commission of representatives from Great Britain colonies India to study expanding intra empire trade and trading facilities with foreign markets.
