The FBI probes the theft of nearly 4700 bras from Kennedy Airport. Court papers say some of the Philippine origin lingerie has surfaced in New York City stores. The items were intended for exclusive sale in Kmart outlets.
PWA Corp chairman Rhys Eyton calls Air Canada's 1 billion offer a diabolical plot to kill Canadian Airlines and vows to present it to the board. Air Canada's bid would pay 200 million for foreign routes and assume 800 million in debt for eight aircraft, while preserving jobs and Gemini system but reducing Canadian to domestic service. Meanwhile in Thailand, police warn rescuers may loot remains at the Royal Plaza Hotel in Korat after its collapse, with 114 bodies recovered and reports of crews falsely claiming survivors to halt bulldozers.
Col Keith Eddy, commander at Canadian Forces Base Suffield, says he will likely propose removing the 850 head herd after tonight’s public meeting at the Medicine Hat Lodge. A civilian committee earlier urged complete removal, citing marks of wild descendants from historic domestic stock.
Naturalists advocate trimming herd numbers and call for a scientific study of environmental impacts at the Medicine Hat wildlife reserve. The provincial government spent 69 thousand dollars on a public opinion poll to gauge Premier Ralph Klein's popularity weeks before an election. Regina and Ernest Twiggs expect to appeal a Florida court order ruling they must stay away from Kimberly Mays who was swapped at birth with another child 14 years ago. Judge Stephen Dakan named Robert Mays as Kimberly s legal father, while Twiggs may seek visitation later.
In a unanimous decision the B C Court of Appeal awarded custody of the 20 month old boy to Jim and Faye Tearoe of Victoria. The court said there had been no mother child bonding and the Tearoes provide a loving stable home. Teena Sawan had sought to reclaim the child claiming Cree cultural upbringing.
