Calgary CP reports J Glenn Elder of the Alberta hail insurance board says this year’s hail losses could be the heaviest in recent history with about 1 million acres damaged of 14 million cultivated. Payments may be less than last year’s 2.443 million as fewer farmers insured. An estimated 300 000 to 400 000 insured acres, hail damage from light to full, and about 2 000 claims filed to date.
