London reports that Prime Minister MacDonald and the economy committee discussed a revenue tariff to balance the budget. A ten percent tariff on manufacturers and food is proposed along with measures to suspend the sinking fund and raise unemployment fund contributions.

A car in Napanee Ontario last night swerved into the ditch and struck a hydro pole. Mrs J H Dixon of Toronto and Mrs J D McBeth of Toronto were instantly killed. Their husbands were injured and Wesley Dixon, their son, severely injured.

A coroner's jury at City Hall found Emma Freda Adle died by hanging in the detention room of the Children’s Shelter on August 18. The discovery and autopsy by Dr. J S MacLeod noted a single knot on a sheet tied to a water pipe, with death due to strangulation. The jury and witnesses detailed the circumstances, including prior juvenile court action over bedding theft.

Montreal report from the coroner’s court says Paul Lizotte age 41 is held criminally responsible for the death of Alfred Shepherd 57 after a farm quarrel escalated to a duel with pitchforks. Shepherd died from heart wounds a day earlier. Witnesses describe a long struggle ending with Lizotte stabbing Shepherd in the heart as Mrs Shepherd cried to stop. The dead man’s son said Lizotte hid nearby and later sought aid for the injured man.
Grain inspectors report total cars of new crop wheat 70 with breakdowns including one car No 1 hard and 39 cars No 1 Northern. Old crop wheat 100 cars, total contract wheat 129 cars. Flax and mixed grains show minimal receipts. year totals show 1380 cars and 46 last year for flax.

A dispatch from Tsingtao reports about six hundred Chinese mobs raided Tokyo's Japanese quarter injuring about twenty Japanese and several Koreans. Some houses were damaged and a few Chinese suffered minor injuries as the Dairen warship was ordered to Tsingtao in what is seen as retaliation for anti-Chinese disorders in Korea.
Ahmadabad India August 19 Mahatma Gandhi issues a list of government violations of the Delhi truce with Lord Irwin naming cases such as six delinquent taxpayers shut in a hornet filled room and peasants ordered to sell wives to pay taxes. He cites soldiers allowing abuse and religiously motivated beatings amid wartime strain.
