Oil slick threatens commercial sea life in Laguna Madre

Two large oil patches from the Ixtoc I blowout threaten bays and wetlands along Laguna Madre. A 10.5 sq km mousse patch drifts six kilometers off Brownsville jetties and a 16 km ribbon remains 1.6 kilometers off the Port Mansfield cut. Coast Guard officials warn this is the biggest threat to inlets, with anti oil booms and skimmer systems deployed to corral the spill.

Woman sues parents over abandonment at birth

A 27-year-old Michigan woman, Karen Multack Boldt, sues her parents for $33 million, claiming they abandoned her at birth and had her placed in a home for the retarded. She recalls a father’s line of go away and seeks acknowledgment of her humanity along with her liberty. Boldt, disabled by spina bifida, lives in New Haven, Michigan with her son.

Arson Kills Four Children At Houston House Fire

Four children aged 3 to 12 died in a deliberately set Houston house fire. Two sisters and two cousins were found bound, with one girl raped and others strangled.
