Western earthquakes struck southwestern Montana with reported deaths and injuries. Authorities cited 16 dead and up to 150 marooned near Hebgen Dam while communications and roads were disrupted. The quake measured 5% on the Richter scale, with aftershocks and tremors felt across the region.
Bank officials in Medicine Hat report a general tightening of loan policies as Canada-wide restrictions flow from Bank of Canada rate moves and a 6 percent lending ceiling.
