City officials clash over funding for a road paving program tied to provincial and federal support. Mayor Bullivant warns the project could halt without cash while discussions with provincial deputy minister G H Monkman yield limited assurances.
After a four and a half hour cabinet session in Edmonton, G. L. MacLachlan and other officials sent a telegram to Prime Minister Mackenzie King outlining Alberta measures. The government asserts the acts fall within provincial jurisdiction and aim to curb perceived banking tyranny while preserving Confederation.
Calgary city council voted against building a new airport with a Federal grant of 75 714 dollars toward a 230 143 dollar project. They would not commit Calgary funds but would reconsider if federal money is redirected to another project. Mayor Davison noted Calgary has two airports and room for a third.
Herbert Hollick-Kenyon announced he accepted Sir Hubert Wilkins offer and would fly Arctic search for the six Russian trans polar fliers missing since Friday.
