London Ont August 22 Sir Adam Beck creator and head of Ontario hydro electric commission and a noted horseman died after months of illness and treatment in Baltimore Physicians announced his death just after midnight Saturday as his doctors and relatives realized the end was near He had recently returned from Baltimore and had been viewed as capable of resuming duties before his condition worsened lasting several months
Dublin reports the government plans a separate medical register for the Free State. The move, effective next February, will bar Free State doctors from practicing in Britain or Northern Ireland and exclude non Irish doctors from Southern Ireland, prompting fears for Ireland’s medical profession.
A CPR local passenger train collided head on with a light pusher engine west of a South York river bridge near Lethbridge. Middleton the pusher engineer and Kendall the passenger train wireman died. The fireman and engineer survived with minor injuries. 12 passengers injured. Superintendent Jameson led wreck response. a full injury list was unavailable at press time.
Calgary August 17 Patrick Z Parker zone manager for Alberta at Hudson's Bay Company is appointed zone manager for British Columbia stores succeeding H T Lockyer. Parker is at the coast and expected to return to Calgary before moving to Vancouver to settle permanently.
The Ogilvie Milling Co welcomed Medicine Hat’s first car of the season’s wheat. The car came from Enchant, traded No. 3 North, weighing five and a half pounds per bushel. Early ripening caused the low grade, with higher quality wheat expected later in the harvest.
The Winnipeg wheat market opened steady then turned heavy with October futures closing up 8 1 8 cents at 14 50 1 8. May and other contracts moved higher amid light trade and some short covering while Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta saw weekend rains delaying harvesting but aiding late crops. A telegram from a CN official notes he will stop Thursday evening for 2 3 hours and may join a joint dinner with Mayor and CN directors Major Bell and J Bell Gardner and about ten CN officers.

A $4000 fire at Hilda Augé 217 Sunday night destroyed the Lippert building and damaged the Post Office and Government telephone facilities. The Post Office and telephone valuables were found intact in the morning. D Montgomery the postmaster reported a severe uninsured loss for a resident who lived behind the post office.
