Rescue work resumes at Blakeburn mine in Coalmont British Columbia after a Wednesday explosion. Officials fear a lower tunnel fire may trigger another blast as crews search for forty-two missing miners. By nightfall few bodies recovered amid dense smoke and dangerous conditions.
The Broder Canning Co Ltd in former Preston Milling Co premises operates around the clock harvesting green and wax beans from Taber Barnwell, with 80 staff. Manager R H Hawthorne foresees a large vegetable plant as Southern Alberta proves suitable for crops with irrigation. For 1930 the firm has 300 acres under contract across Taber Barnwell Medicine Hat, growing beans pumpkins corn peas and navy beans for seed. The plant uses natural gas for canning and expects a busy season till October then likely to can pork and beans.

Baltimore August 16 Thomas B Slick of Oklahoma City known as the wealthiest independent oil operator in the world died here.
