Andrew Taylor, a prospector, was found alive after forty eight days lost in harsh conditions. Fred Coleman, a longtime miner from Cobalt, tracked the trail and located Taylor, who was then airlifted to The Pas in Manitoba.
Reports from Brockville and Pickering detail derailments of trains in Ontario. The International Limited from Montreal to Chicago derailed at Aultsville after hitting a cross over switch, with no injuries reported. Six CP coaches derailed near Audley. one baggage man hurt. Passengers were reassigned and service delayed as crews cleared lines.
Dilke Saskatchewan August 15 A fishing companion Lawrence Link reported William Daleski of Long Lake fell on the sidewalk during an excursion and died from a broken neck authorities say.
Regina August 15 Official notice states section 8 township 2 range 80 west of the third meridian is withdrawn from homestead entry sale and settlement under the Dominion Lands Act. Lands are set aside as school land in Cypress Hills Forest Reserve, replacing section 29 township 9 range 24. Announcement by J W Martin acting commissioner of homestead lands.
A contaminated well on John Boldt's farm ten miles north of Pangman Saskatchewan has killed his 16 year old son Jacob and left 18 year old daughter Annie gravely ill with typhoid fever at Weyburn General Hospital. Jacob died shortly after admission. Annie showed slight improvement last night.
Two University of California physicians report in the Journal of the American Medical Association that treating infantile paralysis with invalescent serum within forty eight hours after symptom onset prevented deaths and lasting paralysis in seventeen observed cases. Delays beyond forty eight hours increased danger, with one death and three cases of after paralysis in six treated between forty eight and seventy two hours.
Shanghai August 15 The Nation list Government sent a second note to Japan on the disputed 1896 treaty. The content was not officially released but indicated China would abrogate the pact. The note was handed to the Japanese Consul at Nanking last night and today he forwarded it to the Japanese Minister at Beijing.
Florida faces rising Lake Okeechobee waters forming a shallow inland sea. Okeechobee City remains safest while refugees reach by boat with Red Cross aid. Cabbage Bluff trapper village residents evacuated after the town was washed away. Inundation stretches 50 miles north to south with damage estimated at 200 000 to 400 000 dollars affecting railroads roads industries and homes.
Vancouver exhibi tion results show Vauxhall Stock Farms Limited of Vauxhall Alberta winning five first prizes for Berkshire swine. The event took place on Tuesday with cool dry conditions and a high around 58 degrees.
Joan MacDonald of Edinburgh, daughter of Ramsay MacDonald M.P., raced in a wide beam single shell loaned by Kenora Rowing Club. She fell twice into the lake after the Devil's Gap launch crossed her bow, swam ashore, then invited all to join in a celebratory plunge.
Vancouver reports the Canadian Pacific liner Empress of Asia will sail August 16 at noon carrying 550 passengers including 135 first class 125 second 50 third and 250 steerage. Edmonton, Aug 15 Two boys Jackie Brown aged 10 and Stan Zabroski aged 8 drowned in the Saskatchewan River near Mast End bridge while playing in shallow water. Police search continues as fathers and locals scour the river for the bodies.
British naval circles report five hundred lives lost as the steamer Salins foundered in the Yangtze while headed from Chunking to Ichang. Among the drowned is believed to be a British missionary. John Malcolm, prominent citizen of St George Ontario, is dead.
Reports from Vancouver and Edmonton detail conflicting claims about explorer John Hornby and his companions. Witnesses describe a John Hornby living on Lulu Island and farming near Stevenson, while the Edmonton account identifies Adelard and Christian as Hornby’s companions who perished in the barren lands after departing in May 1926.

Montreal Aug. 15 Mrs G Pew of Toronto is killed and her elder son dying after a motor bus strikes the Pew car at a level crossing in Sorel Quebec. The husband has a broken arm and two younger relatives suffer minor injuries as the stalled car is hit by the bus.
