Relief teams struggle under heat as 59 dead and up to 100 trapped after the seven story Royal Plaza Hotel collapse in Korat. Rescue leader Somsak Panrat said sounds were gone, with only a few survivors found among over 300 workers. A doctor noted the heat lowers recovery chances.
Washington reports President Clinton pledging strong effort to win NAFTA passage after sides deals with Canada Mexico and the United States. UNPROFOR announced the Serbs would evacuate Mount Igman by 4 p.m. as Bosnian President Izetbegovic demanded a halt to the siege of Sarajevo and a resumption of Geneva talks. The move aimed to ease NATO air strike threats and allow peace negotiations to continue. The UN commander said troops could monitor checkpoints while Bosnian army officials kept their soldiers in position.
A stranger named Mark intervened as three men attacked a 17 year old girl near the Bow River path north of the Cushing Bridge. He escorted her home and declined further involvement, while police seek suspects described as 20 to 22 years old.
