Coronation Alberta August 19 Mrs Henry HB Keeley wife of a Great War veteran committed suicide by hanging herself in the barn at their farm northwest of town between 10 PM and 6 AM. The widow was aged 36 or 40, with cause attributed to despondency. Relatives and husband’s whereabouts are unknown with a telegram sent to locate him in Victoria.
The U S Department of Agriculture reports an 13 percent drop in wheat production in major northern hemisphere producers for 1924. Detroit August 13 Fire swept through the Dwight Lumber Company plant at River Range marking a million dollar loss. The blaze started shortly after midnight and caused extensive damage to the facility and its contents. No injuries are reported and investigations begin to determine the cause.
Two hundred teachers aboard the Princess Adelaide were welcomed to Victoria by Mayor Hayward via marconigram from Gonzales radio before entering the harbor. They will open the Canadian Teachers' Federation convention tonight at the Empress Hotel where sessions will be held.

Miss Lanra J. Wright aged ten months daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles F E Wright drowned in about five inches of water in a pail at their St George Maryland home yesterday. The tragedy occurred in the Wright residence prompting investigation by local authorities. The child was described as well cared for and the incident shocked neighbors.
