London reports General Sam Hughes Canadian militia minister, on return from an eight day front visit, met Belgian King and French leaders including Joffre and Foch. He praised British troops, noted Canadian troops’ popularity, and said an inspection by Prince Alexander of Teck would occur Monday.
Heriner Tageblatt reports general satisfaction in Berlin over Germanys reply to the American note on submarine warfare. Most papers praise the governments stance and aim to avoid conflict with the United States while meeting practical American demands. London reports the German air raid last night caused 6 noncombatant deaths and 23 injuries. Fourteen houses were damaged in the raid which adds to a total of 76 killed and 175 hurt from previous raids. The Allies say two Zeppelins were lost and one air raid damaged.
The chamber of deputies approved a bill to expropriate land needed for the burial of soldiers killed in action in France. The proposal was put forward by War Minister Willerand amid ongoing wartime measures.
The mayor proclaims a Wednesday afternoon holiday after talks with business leaders. Plans call for three excursion trips to view regional crops by auto, with costs of one dollar per person to cover gasoline and reimburse owners. Potential routes include Bow Tstand, Seven Persons area, and Suffield vicinity. A meeting will finalize plans and schedules.

In Davidson war contracts commission testimony in Kentville Nova Scotia Remount Department Agent W P McKay bought a one eyed horse for 125 dollars after a seller valued it at 75 earlier in the day then traded it for a 65 dollar sixteen year old horse with Ca Jack The seller Vinton B P Smith North Kingston said he sold the animal not to profit but because it was unsuitable for his use McKay justified the purchase as patriotic noting the government need and Smith later sold two horses to McKay for 125 and a mail van The three horses brought Smith about 405 to 415 dollars with more details on page 4.
