The U S Navy reports the nuclear submarine Skate reached the North Pole surfacing 40 miles from the pole after a 265 foot undersea voyage from New London Connecticut. The Skate is the third U S atomic sub in service and will continue under ice explorations as plans for 33 submarines advance. The Nautilus completed a polar crossing from the Pacific and arrived in Portland England after a 1 830 mile trip. Some vessels will carry Polaris missiles for undersea strikes against Russia.
Aaron Jones, a left hander from Chicago who posted a 4-1 record for Medicine Hat Superiors of the Southern Alberta Baseball League, was released by the club this morning. He had contributed to their 1,500 dollar Rotary Tournament win and was called up to the Missoula Timberjacks of the Pioneer League by the Washington Senators. He left for Missoula at noon today, leaving Superiors with only three ready pitchers and Bob Bolingbroke recovering from a virus infection yet doubtful to start for another week.
