Late yesterday four massive explosions rocked the American Oil Company refinery in South Baltimore as seven firemen suffered serious burns and about 500,000 gallons of gasoline kerosene and benzol burned. A dense black smoke pall drew a crowd of about 100000 to the Hanover Street scene.
Spokane reports officials of the Sells Floto circus recount the Edmonton Calgary Cranbrook elephant dash. A stampede left several maimed and two young elephants Myrtle and Charlie still missing while Tillie and others were recaptured.
Somerville N J August 11 with half of fifty witnesses heard today the state presses ahead in tracing the September 1922 tragedy that killed Rev Edward W Hall and Mrs Eleanor Mills in New Brunswick. Witness James Mills husband of the slain woman admitted he told his wife he planned a divorce. State police noted a few breaks but no major breakthrough by early today.

Lord Blyth's Blythwood mansion at Stanstead Essex was badly damaged by fire. Lord Blyth aged 58 was being lowered from a window by his nephew Hon Rupert Blyth 21 when the rope slipped and he fell injuring an ankle. The blaze wounded the housekeeper and cook while five domestics escaped.
Winnipeg grain inspections show 56 cars of old crop wheat in contract grades and 34 cars of coarse grains including four cars of new rye. Compared to last year, totals were 21 cars.

In Sudbury Ontario on Monday night two prisoners Michael White and Fred King awaiting theft charges knocked out Turnkey George Moyer with an iron bar and fled from the provincial police cell in the courthouse basement. The turnkey was confined to his home and his condition is not considered serious. No arrests reported yet.
Ten bandits were condemned to death in Tyumen for killing over a hundred people. The gang leader is nicknamed the Jack the Ripper of the Ural Mountains, and his wife Pishtanovsa is said to have killed victims with an axe.

Cook wounded. gunman Michael McDonald was killed during an attempted robbery, and a fourth bandit escaped with 16 000 in cash from the Hewlett Woodmere National Bank in Woodmere Long Island. The day closed with police reporting fair and cool weather and a temperature of 78 degrees.
Ottawa reports a quinquennial census for Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta indicating an average population increase of about five percent since 1921. The 20 districts total 803 826 people up from 735 308 in 1921 with ten districts in Manitoba five in Saskatchewan and five in Alberta covered in the latest release.
