Madrid reports show naval mutiny aboard the battleship Numanicia and Republican demonstrations in Cadiz and Barcelona. The Liberal ministry faces growing agitation against the monarchy, with tightened censorship and relentless prosecutions of the press as government attempts order.

Chicago Aug 12 John J Rice aviator fell 500 feet during a bi plane flight at a race track. Engine failure sent the craft downward until a wire arrested the fall. He jumped from the machine and survived with a broken leg a sprained ankle and facial cuts. Bi plane wrecked.
East Grand Forks August 12. John Condon of Bloomfield Illinois is identified as the victim crushed to death between two cars in a Cookstown wreck after writing his name on a board at the Great Northern depot two hours before the eastbound collision. Otto Hill Berg of Bemidji with the coroner located the board name. Condon’s clothes offered no clues.
Washington reports the government’s long anti trust fight cost Standard Oil 42 395 189 in court fees to dissolve. The Supreme Court awarded that sum as costs and a larger bill for attorneys and other expenses remains uncalculated, with total litigation costs likely far higher.
A morning blaze in New Toronto destroyed six houses, causing about 8000 dollars in building losses and 3000 dollars in contents. Five frame rental homes housed workingmen, while a pressed brick house owned by Percy Rilles was valued around 4000 dollars.

Canadian liners faced disruption as goods trains moved large volumes of passengers and cargo.
Detroit Aug 12 Captain J Callwell of the Revenue Cutter Morill filed a complaint with federal officials against the Detroit and Windsor Railway Company after two sailors in regulation uniform were denied boarding the steamer Columbia on a moonlight trip. Company officials said the uniforms were unsuitable. The captain states the sailors were clean and sober and seeks redress.
Admiral Togo and party arrived at West Point from New York aboard the Mayflower. He dined with General Barry, witnessed a cadet review, and then toured the grounds and buildings for inspection.
Quakes were recorded today at the Santa Clara observatory in San Jose California. The general movement came from the southeast and the east with disturbances tracing from the valley of the Colorado or northern Mexico.

Dawson reports a prospector named Oliver from Edmonton and his partner were found dead in a Salt River cabin. One killed the other with a gun, then committed suicide after illness left him unable to seek a doctor. Captain Beytz may bury the bodies. dispatches arrive in Regina in September via Hudson Bay steamer.
