Golden Hawks Air Crewman Dies in Calgary Collision
A member of the RCAF Golden Hawks and two U S civilians died in a mid air crash near Calgary as a Sabre jet struck a Pipre Tri Pac er light plane during landing prep on 2000 ft. The Golden Hawks team based at Trenton Ontario included Frt Lt P J Kerr aged 25 of Welland Ontario. The two U S victims were Dr William Gane 39 and Charles Gane 31 of Philadelphia on vacation flight in the plane owned by Medical and Scientific Personnel Service Inc of Philadelphia. The crash occurred a mile west of McCall Field near the Edmonton Calgary rail line. The incident follows a previous similar crash near the air base. The future of the Golden Hawks was uncertain though chances were they would continue with schedules. The Air Force Day demonstration at Penhold Alta was planned for Saturday.

Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company of Canada Limited announced a 4.5 million dollar plant to be built north of the South Saskatchewan River near the CPR line in Medicine Hat. Construction starts next week with 135 jobs, payroll over 1 million, and tires rolling by September 1960. Executives led by L. E. Spencer described a 84,000 square foot, expandable facility to serve western Canada with passenger car truck and farm tires. The site was purchased from Canadian Pacific amid praise from city officials and the Chamber of Commerce.
