Cobourg Ont Aug 11 Brighton becomes the first township east of Toronto to adopt the Ontario telephone act granting township telephone service at cost. Arrangements are under way to install the service with over two hundred subscribers already secured.
Thomas Bowles longtime Dufferin County sheriff died Saturday at age 83. Born and raised in Chinguacousy township, he served Orangeville and surrounding area in law enforcement for decades.
In Regina Saskatchewan on Friday night two machinists died and a third man was seriously injured after an unprotected engine operation caused another engine to strike them. The victims were identified as McQueen and Lars Oscar Walberg.
Sacramento reports the California Alien Land Act took effect at midnight amid diplomatic exchanges with Japan. The act allows aliens not eligible for citizenship to own lease and transfer property under treaty terms, with provisions for court sale of inherited estates and escheat of new acquisitions, while current holdings remain unaffected.
