Washington August 8 Hugh S Johnson outlined a plan to quickly raise wage earners’ buying power by applying temporary codes across industries within two weeks. The American Newspaper Publishers Association joined with shorter hours and minimum wages, preserving existing contracts and press freedom while setting a 15 week minimum in large cities and lower wages in smaller communities.
Edmon ton August 8 Announce ments from Hon Perren Baker provincial minister of education say mail correspondence courses for high school grades 9 10 11 12 will be extended this fall. The service will cover nearly all four years of high school subjects. Classes exclude technical and commercial units. Fee is 8 per subject. applications go to the Department of Education Edmonton. Students study at home and are not required to take normal school or university entrance exams. Papers are mailed to Edmonton for marking and credits. Lessons follow authorized textbooks.
Dominic Burns of the Vancouver Block died June 19 without a will leaving a net estate of 200000. Letters of administration go to W J Blake Wilson of Vancouver. The estate will be shared equally among three brothers a sister and the children of a deceased brother. Senator Patrick Burns of Calgary is a beneficiary.
Banff Alberta August 9 192? The Indian Days committee plans a buffalo barbecue by Jack Casill for August 18 19 20 at Banff Springs Hotel. The event includes parades Indian sports powwows and an at home day with a hymn focused pew-wow. Estate of H P Eckhardt worth about 1.25 million dollars.
Cuban conflict nears climax as United States Ambassador Summer Welles awaits President Machado on quitting the presidency. Reported peace plan centers on Machado asking Congress for an indefinite leave of absence and naming a universally acceptable Secretary of State who would assume the presidency if vacancy occurs.

Captain James Mollison trans Atlantic flier plans to sail to England on Friday aboard the liner Majestic from New York. His wife Mrs Mollison formerly Al Johnson will stay in the United States for an estimated two to three weeks while Mollison and his team replace the crashed plane with a new craft.
New York reports Walter Winchell faces a $500,000 damages suit after the Jolson pass incident in Hollywood. Winchell says he was served notice of the action last Thursday night.
