Death sentence commuted for Indian inmate in Kansas

John Aday, an Indian prisoner at Leavenworth, had been scheduled for execution in September for the murder of fellow prisoner Thomas Watson. Judge J. W. Woodrough granted a new trial, Aday pleaded guilty, and received a life sentence. Aday, 22, was already serving life for killing an Indian girl on the Apache reservation in Arizona.

Hon. J. A. Calder leaves Ottawa tonight for Quebec then sails for England. During his absence Arthur Sifton acts as privy council president and J. D. Colors of 175th Batt Deposited in Fifth Avenue Church

The 175th Battalion held a solemn ceremony to deposit its colors at Fifth Avenue Church after a parade from the Armory. Led by Col Spencer and the Pipe Band, the color party presented the colors to Rev Davis at St Barnabas before the ceremony. Policeman Shot by Mistake in Alberta Hunt

Lethbridge August 9. Nick Kystik sworn in by the Alberta Provincial Police was killed during a raid on foreign miners suspected of harboring Bassoff the wanted outlaw. A second man Whysick was shot when a cop mistook him for Bassoff. Bassoff remains missing as the manhunt continues through the woods and pass routes with guards watching for his return.
