Emir Sinks Off Strait of Gibraltar Killing 93
The French steamer Emir foundered five miles east of Tirini Spain in fog after a collision with the British steamer Silverton. Eighty-three people drowned. sixty-nine passengers and twenty-four crew members perished. The Silverton brought 27 survivors and returned with damage to its bow and forepeak filled with wear. Pleads Guilty to Forgery at Police Court
Geo W Roberts a sixteen year old from Portland Ore pleaded guilty to uttering and cashing a forged cheque for 21 75 drawn on Union Bank. He said he came to Canada seven months ago via Spokane and Grand Forks with a circus outfit and bought clothes with the money. A second forged cheque for 17 50 was found on him and he was remanded for sentencing.
