Fort William August 6 The discovery of hematite ore is reported by Henry Drenny a Toronto prospector near the Canadian National Railway right of way about seventy five miles east of Nipigon He predicts a 12 000 000 ton yield with 50 to 60 percent hematite from staked claims and development 500 feet down from the surface Plans are under way to develop and transport the ore to Nipigon for shipment.
An isolated hail storm hit northern Branspeth and Weldon late Tuesday, flattening grain fields over a 15 mile stretch and a three mile wide path. Some farms face 100 percent losses, with only partial insurance coverage. other districts 40 miles east near Prince Albert reported hail but with unconfirmed details.
In Toronto, Premier Bracken of Manitoba and Premier Brownlee of Alberta met with bank officials led by J A McLeod of the Bank of Nova Scotia to review disposing of last year’s wheat crop and financing the 1930 crop. They said the talk was informal and yielded nothing decisive.

Canada's annual financial statement shows a net debt reduction of 347,740,746.39 dollars for the Dominion. At March 31, 1929 the net debt was 2,225,504,705.10, and by March 31, 1930 it stood at 1,177,763,971.00. The 12 month debt drop amounts to 71,745,527.82, with ordinary expenditures and revenues cited for the year.
Bruce Flowers of New Rochelle, listed as a negro, stopped Tommy Grogan of Omaha in the opening round of their ten round lightweight clash at Queensboro Stadium. Grogan weighed 138 pounds and Flowers 126.
Winnipeg August 6 Farmers and city folk woke to a clear sky and no rain in sight as the weather bulletin forecast fair and warm. The heat wave persisted from Manitoba to the prairies and grain belt areas saw grain prices climb with futures up about 10 cents a bushel, topping the dollar mark.
Mr. B. Phillips of Bon Sptarth, recently named manager of Ogilvie Elevator Company, was injured starting an elevator engine. He was taken to Medicine Hat General Hospital for surgery with his wife Mrs. Phillips notified. he is in good progress but will remain hospitalized for some time.
