Royal Humane Society Medal For Miss Jeanette Hallworth
Jeanette Hallworth a 20 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs J H Hallworth 1033 Ross Street received the Royal Humane Society medal for saving two people from drowning at Hillwater Lake two years ago. She and Mrs Thompson and her five year old son Lorne were in a canoe when it overturned on August 8 1935. Jeanette kept Lorne afloat and helped shoreward while Mrs Thompson struggled and Colin Wilson helped rescue the child. She later retrieved the oars and modestly downplays her role stating she could not let them drown.
