Montreal CP report says George Hees, Progressive Conservative leadership candidate, remains confident of victory at the September convention despite Duff Roblin entering the race. Hees tours Quebec by helicopter through Aug 15 visiting all 74 constituencies, stressing bilingual outreach and direct talks with delegates. Hees clarifies remarks about inviting Amos mayor to cabinet were misinterpreted.
In Wichita Kansas early today about 150 Negroes clashed with police and sheriff's deputies after Mayor Clarence Vollmer ordered a curfew. Three officers were injured by blows and debris while 10 others sought treatment for injuries. Fires were set at two businesses and a car but overall damage was minor.
Medicine Hat Police Commission posts a 500 reward for information identifying those responsible for roughly 20000 in malicious damage to Medicine Hat Junior College on Friday night July 28. Quebec Liberal Federation president Eric Kierans pressed Premier Daniel Johnson to state he is a separatist and to call an immediate election on the issue.
