Russian forces press the offensive while the main army retires in orderly fashion, extending defensive work against German advances toward Warsaw.
Berlin reports Prince Leopold of Bavaria forces attacking Warsaw as heavy battles unfold near the Narew and Skrwa rivers. German troops from France reinforce positions while Russians resist and hold lines, with both sides suffering very heavy losses.
The case against Mose Wilmot for supplying liquor to Indians did not conclude this morning. Sour Belly and Mary Skunk, two intoxicated witnesses, testified then recanted earlier statements and implicated Wilmot, prompting adjournment as Wilmot plans to call four witnesses and hire a lawyer.
London reports Daily News summary of Edward Legges new volume detailing Kaiser Wilhelm IIs alleged complicity in the Lusitania sinking. The book presents a handwritten Kaiser letter urging a friend not to send his son to England on the Lusitania, and suggests Bernstorff and Ballia aided the crime.

In New Westminster this morning T C MacKillarney known as Mickey the Dage was hanged for the August murder of Vancouver police Detective Richard Polevis. The execution followed conviction at the provincial gallows with state authorities confirming the sentence was carried out at dawn.

Mary Keiran aged 18 and her four year younger sister drowned while swimming in Peigan Creek near Ranchville south of Medicine Hat during heavy spring rainfall. The elder could not swim, her sister tried to help and both perished. Bodies to be sent to Medicine Hat for interment. they lived with a widowed mother on a farm one mile south of Ranchville. Mary had worked as a stenographer in W P Dundon’s law offices and recently on the News staff. The community extends condolences. brother Joseph was away in the city when the accident happened.
Captain R T Davidson announced that D Company of the 630th Regiment recruited locally will depart Sunday for Sarcee camp. C and Dy companies from Calgary go Monday, while A and B from Edmonton join around August 20 to drill at Edmonton and attend the city exhibition opening. Davidson praised his men as in fine shape after rigorous platoon drill.
The 21st Hussars will conduct its regular Wednesday night drill tonight at 7 30. Local unit members are advised to assemble at the usual drill hall and maintain standard dress and discipline.
A lone bandit robbed the Cedar Rapids National Bank early today and escaped with 23500 dollars. Teller Lee Perrin was found bound and gagged an hour later.
