ERCB Approves Cold Lake Heavy Oil Plant in Alberta

The Energy Resources Conservation Board gave a qualified approval for Esso Resources to build a 4.5 billion heavy oil plant in the Cold Lake area east of Edmonton near the Saskatchewan border. The project aims to cut Canada's oil deficit and is planned to come online in the mid 1980s, producing about 140000 barrels per day. the board also approved related drilling, facilities, and site plans.

Bryant pleads not guilty to 21 theft charges

Albert Harold Bryant of Calgary pleaded not guilty in provincial court before Judge Dietrich Brand to 21 theft counts totaling 31 103 75 tied to the sale of cars owned by 21 city residents from July 1976 to June 30 1977. He chose trial by judge and jury with a preliminary hearing set for October 15. co defendant Bernard Rudolf Drath did not appear and a warrant is out. The Crown alleges sales through MJB Consignment Sales Street and Walker Sales Ltd. and Thistle Country Holdings Ltd with proceeds not returned to owners.

Ottawa to probe civil aviation safety with public inquiry

Transport Minister Don Mazankowski announced a public inquiry into civil aviation safety. Justice Charles Dubin of the Ontario Court of Appeal will head the probe, with a report due by Oct 1 1980.
