A fire of unknown origin gutted Subway Motors Garage and an adjoining body shop in Medicine Hat on Sunday. Fire crews contained the flames to the single buildings, with about 300000 dollars in damage. No injuries reported.
Tornadoes lashed southern Saskatchewan causing extensive crop and barn damage across a wide area from Wilcox to Lumsden and Foam Lake. Winds over 100 mph destroyed buildings, knocked out power and disrupted communications with two inches of rain and widespread street flooding reported in Regina and Yorkton.

H J McCallum resigns immediately from the Cypress View Lodge board of management. In a letter to Alderman C E Adam, McCallum defends his tenure as a diligent member while noting that expenditures and tenders were handled by others. The exchange highlights internal board tensions and public insinuations.
In a formal letter Mr Mc Callum disclaims being chairman of the board of management and denies the board awarded the Cypress View Lodge awning tender. He says he has no alternative but to resign and takes exception to Medicine Hat News remarks from July 31 1964. The letter cites the Cypress View Lodge controversy and clarifies positions.
In Pasadena the Ranger 7 mission returned 4 316 close range photographs of the moon in a 13 minute 40 second window. Scientists plan detailed analysis to locate potential manned landing sites and refine Ranger television systems.
Reuters reports Northern Rhodesia Lumpa church members armed with spears knives bows and a muzle loaded public safety item rampaged in Lundazi Eastern Province. At least one person died and 150 were involved in the violence raising the revolt toll to over 270 with more feared deaths. Police say Lum pa leader Alice Lenshina Mulenga remains at large and troops have been dispatched while tourists are urged to leave the region.
