The coroner's jury heard that William Everett Macfarlane, a young Chilliwack man, wandered alone in the Gold River district on Vancouver Island and died while trying to reach civilization. Found June 27 by a BC search party guided by trapper Harry Lindberg, the note in his diary dated April 27 spoke of near starvation and longing for his mother. Macfarlane had paid $285 for a half share in the trapping outfit before joining Lindberg.
