In Wiarton Ontario a frog jumping contest drew large crowds as 156 frogs competed. The top performer was Silver Bullet with a 3.51 metre triple leap, while spectators described the event as chaotic and playful with eager youngsters like Amber Parente observing.
Manitoba Premier Gary Filmon announced Winnipeg won the 1999 Pan Am Games beating Santo Domingo and Bogota on the third ballot. He said the event rivals the Olympics in scope and economic impact with about 41 Pan Am voters choosing Winnipeg 28 to 22.

Amanda Kay was named the 1994 Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Queen at the Cypress Centre with Angela Bryson as princess. Kay won horsemanship and placed second in public speaking in a tight competition judged 40 percent horsemanship and 60 percent personality and speaking. Bryson, new to Medicine Hat, felt overwhelmed but excited. Coronation followed by a parade and rodeo week with gifts including a 2000 dollar queen scholarship and 1000 dollar princess scholarship.
