London readers report that Canada’s new £15,000,000 loan closed after opening with an over subscription. The issue sold at par for 20 and 25 year terms, with funds to repay outstanding Victory bonds and support Empire financial ties. Hon. R. B. Bennett praised British investor confidence in Canada’s future.
Edmonton August 1 Liberal circles await a decision by Hon Charles Stewart who must choose between West Edmonton and the new northwest riding created near the city. Insiders name several potential candidates as branches prepare to convene in early autumn to settle the field. In Hamilton Ontario an August 2 bank robbery at the Westdale branch yielded $1500 from an automobile getaway by four unidentified men.
Forty four delegates from twenty two Locals of the UTA attended the UFA convention in Brooks in a hot hall. J J Garland MP Bow River addressed the afternoon session while officers and directors were elected for the Medicine Hat federal constituency and plans for future nominations were discussed.
Washington reports fourteen hundred banks allied with the American Bankers Association joined the modified Presidential re employment agreement. Administrator Hugh Johnson declared the code in force for these banks and 6069 non members, setting minimum weekly wages from twelve dollars in small towns to fifteen dollars in large cities for a forty hour week.
Dr. Gershaw recalls that Rt. Hon. W. L. Mackenzie King cannot include Medicine Hat on his Alberta meetings itinerary. The cancellation comes as King must attend the Institute of Pacific Relations delegates in Banff, spoiling plans for a local picnic in his honor.

An association of independent milk dealers filed the first court action against Roosevelt administration price supports. They seek to block prosecutions under the milk code setting a minimum 10 cents per quart in the Chicago area while they continue cash and carry sales at 66 1/2 cents a quart. Judge James H. Wilkerson delayed ruling until the next Monday, with no prosecutions pending pending a full hearing or transfer to Washington.
The first delivery of new wheat arrived Monday July 31 in Winnifred from Art Brehmer via Steve Nichola of Ogilvie Elevator Co. The grain weighed 60 pounds to the bushel and had splendid color.
Rt. Hon. W. L. Mackenzie King told a largely French speaking audience in Debden that Liberals safeguard labor by cabinet representation. He said no third party can represent all Canadians and warned the CCF would divide the country. He argued for a central bank and constitutional change to implement state control. In Managua on Aug 2 the government imposed modified martial law following blasts at Camp De Marte that damaged the arsenal and injured four National Guard members. An inquiry was ordered to determine if the explosions were accidental or deliberate. early reports claimed up to 30 guardsmen harmed, but authorities later reported no fatalities.

The royal commission to study Canadian banking legislation currency and related matters will hold its first public hearing in Ottawa on Tuesday. Lord McMillan will chair with Sir Charles Ai and Hon. E N Rhodes arriving in Quebec on the same steamer as the finance minister. Shaila India Aug 2 The pilots of British aeroplanes bombed Kotkai village of the Bajauri tribe on the north west frontier for a second night in an effort to compel tribesmen to surrender three men accused of fomenting unrest. No casualties were reported. Forecasts: Alberta moderates, warmer later with fair conditions.
Ottawa reports that the Dominion government has not approved any monetary contribution to schemes moving families from drought stricken Southern Alberta to northern areas. Department of Labor officials stated the issue remains undecided.

Four men aboard the 300 horsepower seaplane City of Prince George survived a canyon downdraft near McConnell Lake on July 23. Pilot W R McCluskey and crew Fred Stanes plus two prospectors Gordon McLennan and Hugh McMillan escaped with minor scratches after the aircraft split on impact with trees. they reached a miner's cabin and alerted Takla Lake authorities. The crash occurred in a steep valley with 1000 foot canyon rims and 5000 foot mountains.
Justice J A Stone recommended charges against four Toronto detectives for involvement in a case linked to Albert Dorland after he faced an attempted robbery claim. The Ontario Attorney General released a report noting Dorland was pressured to plead guilty and framed during the investigation.
