Constantinople breathed easier as the danger of a Greek attack seemed averted. Allied forces continue to debark along the Bosphorus and Golden Horn, with about 10,000 Mediterranean fleet troops massed near the city. The Greek army has shown no intent to act without allied approval.

Defense objects to a bankers manifesto shown in evidence while testimony details losses and loans totaling around 2 million to bank staff and questioned asset classifications and required appropriations. The case centers on 1921 returns to the government and alleged misstatements surrounding bad debts and bank mismanagement.
Mr J L Peacock announces sale of his large Holdfast Saskatchewan farm to Bellingham Washington buyers who take over the crop and entire outfit. The farm is the province’s largest under cultivation with over four sections cropped this year. Mr and Mrs Peacock plan to live in Portland.
Sydney Nova Scotia August 2 Dr Alexander Graham Bell inventor of the telephone died at 2 AM at Beinn Bhreagh his estate near Baddeck after a sudden illness Death followed a several months of declining health Bell was attended by Dr Ker of Washington and Dr J J Roy of Sydney His wife and daughters Mrs Marion Fairchild and Mrs Elise Grosvenor with husbands were present Remains to be taken to Washington for interment.
Ten men were reported killed in an explosion on a tug boat at the foot of Goll Street in Brooklyn. The vessel sank almost immediately after the blast. Company officials have no idea how many men were aboard when it sank.
In today’s police court Thos. Davis was sentenced to one month in jail for possessing 33 White Leghorn chickens stolen from R. Jones’s poultry ranch near the exhibition grounds. He had disposed of all but 50 more birds from the same theft. H. Reynolds was fined $100 and costs and sentenced to one month in jail for having liquor elsewhere than his private dwelling.
Chicago and New York dispatches report shopmen near assured acceptance of Harding railroad peace terms while railroad executives refuse the seniority provision and warn of continued operations with existing forces. Hoover and Harding push for swift settlement amid coal strike concerns.

Paris August 2 British note on interallied debt questions removes any chance France would agree to a moratorium for Germany. Officials say the Balfour note disappoints France and undermines talk of a general European reparations and debts agreement.
Montreal August 2 Charles Rosk head waiter on the Canada Steamship Lines vessel Rapids Prince, aground on the Lachine rapids since Sunday, drowned about 7 30 Monday evening. Rosk and assistant Robert Armstrong were returning in a lifeboat when it upset. Armstrong was saved. Over 400 passengers were readied from the steamer. Efforts to free the vessel from the rapids ledge continued without success.
