A trailer carrying 56 000 feet of lumber caught fire three miles west of Medicine Hat early today. Joseph Ducharme of Fort McLeod escaped unharmed as flames destroyed the trailer and damaged lumber and highway equipment. Fire Chief Len Morris blamed a flat tire and failed extinguisher attempt for the blaze.
Early morning derailment near Redcliff affected two Canadian Pacific Railway trains. The westbound Dominion left CPR station at 9 40 am and the eastbound Dominion followed shortly after. No injuries were reported and CPR officials refused to comment.
Cy press View Lodge board of directors held a special meeting to discuss an awning contract awarded to Hot Ventaire Awning Products for 3500 dollars. Chairman Aid. Cliff Adam said a full report could not be issued until more information is gathered. Next meeting set for August 7.
Premier E C Manning said his demand for the resignation of provincial treasurer E W Hinman was a matter of principle not a business deal. He dismissed claims of wrongdoing and noted the reshuffle that brought A O Aalborg to treasurer and M cKinnon to education. Liberal leader Mike Maccagno said the statement satisfied him.
A 1959 model car overturned on Jenner road five miles north of Suffield Experimental Station injuring four Medicine Hat people. Kenneth Knowles 24 suffered friction burns. his mother and father both sustained shoulder injuries and bruises. Charles Eresman 19 lacerations and friction burns. Damage estimated at $400.
Pasadena AP reports Ranger 7 images reveal craters as small as 30 feet and 10 feet deep from three mile and 1,000 foot altitudes. Scientists see 1,000 times more detail than Earth photos and theorize a dust layer softening crater rims.
President Johnson viewed nine moon images from Ranger 7 in a White House briefing and praised the space venture as a step toward future lunar landings and U.S. leadership in space. He called the mission a peace victory and defended the moon program against critics of the costly project.
