Conductor John McCandie Retires After 65th Birthday

John McCandie arrives from Moose Jaw at 4 45 p m to Medicine Hat station where Supt. J L Palethorpe and CPR pensioners greet him on completing over forty years meritorious service with the railroad He and wife plan two week visit to Port Arthur before relocating to California for their home. He was born in Queensville Ontario July 31 1873 and moved to Moose Jaw Lethbridge before joining CPR April 30 1898 He served as conductor since 1902 married Anne Cook in 1903 and has two children Helen of Long Beach Cal and Leslie Bennett of Van Nuys Cal He is active in Masonic circles as District Deputy Grand Master for Medicine Hat Lodge No 2 and a Shrine Club member.

Alberta Health to Circulate Poliomyelitis Precaution Bulletins

Bennett Sets Out on Westward Holiday Trip

Hail damages wheat near Olds at four storms in two weeks

A half hour hail storm hit the wheat country west of Olds on Saturday evening. Conservative estimates place damage at 50 percent across a 40 mile stretch from nine to 16 miles west of Olds to Cremona, with fields already struck by July hail on the 17th 18th and 29th.
