Ottawa posts $7.5 billion surplus first 11 months
The Canadian Press reports Ottawa ran a $7.5B budget surplus through 11 months of the fiscal year, ahead of the 2015-16 deficit forecast. Feb surplus was $3.2B and March would need about a $13B shortfall to meet the Liberals’ $5.4B target, as Morneau cautions year-end results differ.

Canadian dollar briefly hits 80 cent US mark
The loonie touched 80 cent US Friday morning after North American markets opened, then eased to 79.69 cents US. It last traded above 80 cents on June 30, 2015. Analyst Colin Cieszynski says the currency has staged an impressive three month rebound on stronger commodities and a weaker US dollar.

Barrie Strafford remembered as man of the people
Barrie Strafford, founder of Riverview Care Home and Alberta Order of Excellence recipient, died at 87 at his Calgary home.
