A special committee urges a 2.3 million dollar budget increase for Medicine Hat Regional Airport to expand the terminal with a cafeteria style space. The plan includes 300 thousand for a redeveloped food prep area and equipment. Council votes May 6.
Medicine Hat crews and off duty officers battled a fast moving grass fire along the coulee between Upland Drive and Kipling Street. Capt Wayne Lust called it a difficult blaze with access blocked by bridges and steep hills while winds fueled the flames and reduced visibility for residents and firefighters.
About 380 students from grades 6 to 9 joined Notre Dame Academy for the third annual Walk for Wishes on Friday morning. Each participant collected pledges to help grant a health crisis wish for a schoolmate, with Jaylyn Layton seen among the crowd using crutches.
Finance Minister Doug Homer told a Medicine Hat Chamber luncheon the province will conduct a full budget review for Alberta Health Services next year and push for pipeline access. He highlighted the Heritage Trust Fund and compared Alberta to Alaska, saying future growth and the fund’s purpose must be clear while examining AHS role and the budget framework. Blake Pedersen said long overdue economic discussions are needed now as funds are questioned.
