First Door North on Montreal Street offers private balls and parties on short notice and reasonable terms. Wedding cakes can be made on the shortest notice to suit customers.
The Western Sheep Growers Association held its inaugural meeting at Dixon's Hall Maple Creek on the 12th. Founded April 6 1900 to aid western sheepmen about 50 000 sheep were represented. Officers elected for 1901 2 included C Blair pres G W Quick treas and seder F W Martin. A petition to the Dominion Government to set aside more grazing land was authorized. Poison weed concerns were discussed including Mountain Larkspur and Sheep Laurel with a suggested remedy from the 1898 Department of Agriculture report. Membership costs $2 to join Maple Creek can send names to treasurer or secretary.
Opening services for Maple Creek's new Methodist Church will be held Sunday and Monday May 5 and 6. The program lists dedication services and afternoon preaching by Rev. P Grant, evening services by Rev. Emsley, with tea by Ladies' Aid and addresses by Revds Grant Launby and Emsley starting at 8 p.m.
The Chinook Tent No 1 Knights of the Maccabees passes a condolence resolution to the bereaved family of Sir Knight Samuel Harris at Medicine Hat on April 16. The sixth annual general meeting convened in the Reading Room Medicine Hat on April 20 with President R D Porter and officers present. Minutes and reports were adopted, officers elected including F O Sissons as President and J H G Bray as Secretary Treasurer, new members named, round up and stock yard issues discussed, and a memorial to the CPR urged to enlarge Dunmore stock yards. The meeting adjourned after motions on incorporation and note disposal.
