Southern Albertans endured slush and deep snow as a vigorous storm moved through the region. Lethbridge received heavy rain while Calgary and adjacent foothills faced mixed precipitation and substantial disruption to telegraph and telephone lines.
Flood waters along the Athabasca river near Waterways and McMurray Northwest Territories continued raging. Rail lines between Waterways and Draper are submerged and transport crews move passengers and freight on the eastern portion. McMurray is underwater with several riverfront homes destroyed as ice rises. Work crews removed planes and supplies from Canadian Airways hangars to safety.
Syracuse police report a possible Lindbergh tip when a child resembling Charles Lindbergh Jr. was found on a Brewerton area farm. They planned to bring into the city under an open charge Mr. and Mrs. Harry Scott for questioning.

Ottawa April 21 Senator J J Hughes said radium would keep its properties for about seventeen hundred years during a Senate debate on radium. He noted further investigation showing the element remains effective for years despite critics. Senator A D McRae urged government takeover of radium production in Canada and Senator A C Hardy warned the cost would be huge even with generous terms for pitchblende holders in Great Bear Lake to recover radium and pay for production.
A line notes that pitchblende from the Great Bear Lake district could be produced at a cost of 5000 dollars per pram, reflecting the era’s mineral processing estimates.

The Beauharnois Special Senate Committee report concludes Senators McDougald Haydon and Raymond acted unfittingly or improperly. It says McDougald’s conduct was not fitting, Haydon’s evidence about steel contracts was incorrect, and Raymond accepted large campaign sums tied to government concessions. The government was described as a key supporter of Raymond.
Neville Chamberlain explains in the House of Commons that the budget omits receipts for reparations and expenditures for war debts as part of a flexible approach.
