Chopper rescue ends river spree
Two 20 year olds Brigid Crowley and Sheila Pound spent the night beside the South Saskatchewan River after canoeing to an undisclosed destination. A British Army helicopter piloted by Staff Sgt. Ray Portlock rescued them at about 9 40 a.m. They were dropped at Medicine Hat airport at 10 45 a.m. reporters avoided. The civilian sighted their canoe Tuesday evening and moved it to a pickup point before the rescue. Both were shaken but unharmed and embarrassed by the ordeal.
