In Hinchinbrooke Quebec a fourth day of fruitless river and field searches follows a newborn birth in a Chateauguay Valley home near the U S border. Police say the parents remain silent as youth protection removes three children. no charges yet.
Louise Meilleur, born August 29 1880 in Kamouraska Quebec, died at Nipissing Manor Corbeil Ontario at 117. Her daughter Olive Therrien of Peterborough says she was well until last week when a blood clot traveled from leg to lung. Survived by three daughters and one son. Funeral plans not announced.
A 12 metre aluminum irrigation pipe arced to a power line sending 14 000 volts through four boys near the Trans-Canada Highway south of Calgary. Craig Batsel died. Cordell Gruning remains in Calgary's Children’s Hospital in stable condition. Brent Pfeifer and Kyle Batsel were treated and released or remain hospitalized with minor injuries. TransAlta officials urged safety reminders as an investigation continues.
Ottawa highlights two internal studies on Canadian Forces morale report disillusionment and anger among personnel. Focuses include care for injured members and families, and support for service members released from the forces on medical grounds. The first study surveys success in helping injured personnel and families.
Lt Gen Romeo Dallaire cites widespread dissatisfaction in services with scores between 50 and 91 percent.
