Dr. Roy Leriche of the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons warns that a proposed health bill may breach patient confidentiality by allowing the social services minister and others to access health unit records. The bill, introduced by Bob Bogle, would permit broad data release for standards assessment, research, law enforcement, or as required by court, with fines of 500 dollars for breaches. Leriche urged patient consent options, while Bogle offered to consider College input and potential changes if concerns are valid.
