Winnipeg hit by storm of century

A historic Manitoba blizzard paralyzed Winnipeg with power and phone outages and closed highways. Schools and universities canceled, workers stayed home, and hundreds of travelers were stranded at the Winnipeg International Airport before routes began reopening. Hospitals canceled some surgeries as staff rushed to cover shortages. Forty four wheeler owners charged high prices for rides from the airport as Emerson motorists prepared to drive out after two days stranded.

Pool player falters after 24 hour world record bid

Chad Kotow, 24, aimed to set a Guinness record by pocketing the most pool balls in 24 hours at Pepper's Bar and Grill in Windsor. He started Friday 4:30 pm and finished Saturday 4:30 pm, sinking 10,695 balls, 731 racks, but Britain’s Dave Pearson’s 16,500-ball mark stood. It is believed Kotow set a Canadian record.

Shuttle Columbia mission cut short due to fuel cell issues

Astronauts scrambled to finish experiments before a 12 day early return from a 16 day Columbia flight after one of three fuel cells dropped voltage and was shut down. Controllers stressed no danger and noted two cells remained operational as the crew prepared for landing.
