Ottawa reports Canada's fiscal year debt increased by 119.505 million dollars with 51.024 million from excess ordinary expenditure over revenue. Special outlays include 49.282 million for unemployment relief and the wheat bonus, as per Finance Minister Rhodes.
In Dublin April 5 the Cosgrave party pledges to oppose any policy risking the Anglo Irish treaty or Ireland’s status in the British Commonwealth. Former President Cosgrave, guarded by detectives, heads a privacy bound meeting after February elections. The party insists on keeping treaty terms and Free State advantages intact.
The Australian High Court rules by four to two that the new financial enforcement act is valid, giving the Commonwealth power to seize state revenues for overseas debt defaults. London reports Britain will not recognize the new Manchuria state established under Henry Pu-Yi. The House of Commons was informed today that the government declines formal acknowledgment of its existence.
Ottawa April 5. Government aims to move an extra one million tons of Nova Scotia coal this year. Minister Wesley A. Gordon told the House of Commons that a successful issue in negotiations is expected soon. Debate covered coal subventions and regional movements with figures for Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Manitoba and Ontario.
London April 6. Secretary for Dominion Affairs J H Thomas says Britain has received a reply from President Eamonn De Valera to representations on the oath of allegiance and Irish annuities. The government will study the note and hopes to issue a statement Monday. Thomas declined to reveal contents without mutual agreement.

London April 6. New Zealand's five per cent bond issue of £5,000,000 at 98 1/2 fell short of prior successes in London. Underwriters will take about half of the issue. The result yields £2,500,000 from genuine investors and, despite the setback, New Zealand’s London credit remains high.
In Ottawa on budget day, G Howard Ferguson Canadian High Commissioner to London testified before the Senate Beauharnois committee. He denied the claim that he would withhold signing a contract between the Ontario Hydro Electric Commission and Beauharnois unless he received 200000, stating no such demand was made.
In Drumheller on April 6 the Canadian Legion Orkney checker tourney saw Jesse Gouge top the field with sixteen points among ten players. Thomas Riddoch earned fifteen and Alex McDonald fourteen for the top trio.
