Ottawa reports Finance Minister Harris will deliver income tax relief for 3.8 million Canadians. About 85 percent of taxpayers earning under 5,000 dollars annually gain 12 to 13 percent in reductions, effective July 1, with smaller reductions for higher incomes. Corporation taxes drop to 45 percent retroactive to January 1, and car excise taxes are reportedly reduced with dealer cooperation.
The contract for Medicine Hat’s new municipal district hospital was signed at a board meeting this morning. Excavation has begun and a target completion date of September 1 1956 was set by The Foundation Co of Canada Ltd with a general contract price of 1 950 000 dollars and total project cost of 2 292 500 dollars including furnishings land and architect fees. Alderman J W Douglas who was ill attended later and signed the contract.
Fire of undetermined origin destroyed a two storey hotel a private dwelling and a billiard parlor in MERCORS Alta about 180 miles west of Edmonton early today. Damage was unofficially estimated over 300000. Flames started in the hotel basement and spread to the other structures as guests fled in night attire.

Two children aged 10 months and three died in a blaze that destroyed the Gordon Myles service station and coffee shop in Pincher Station Alberta. Their mothers tried to rescue them as flames swept the second floor where the families slept. The loss was estimated at 80 000 dollars.
