Scott Watwood, 42, of Golden B C, leaped from the 33 storey Canada Trust Tower in downtown Calgary last week. He suffered pelvis, back and abdomen injuries and his BASE jumping plan failed when his parachute malfunctioned. His son Conrad said healing will take months. Watwood, owner of Canada Rockies Heli Paragliding, has been charged with mischief and will appear in Calgary provincial court May 31.
Weslaco authorities found State District Judge Ed Aparicio, 46, dead in his home den with a semiautomatic pistol and spent shell casing near him. Police investigate whether the gunshot wound is self defense. Aparicio had recently announced his resignation to focus on family matters.

A medical examiner in Manitoba investigates the death by own action of eight year old Henry Willard Okemon found hanging in a closet on March 28 at the God's Lake Narrows reserve after being reunified with his birth father and four siblings. The doctor notes it is the youngest self harm case he has seen in the province and says the family reported the boy had joked about hanging himself.
