Poole-Szelap Rites• i• Walter James Poole, Jr. claimed Merle Lynn Szelap as his bride in candlelight ceremonies read by the Rev. Jacob H. McCartney at. the Broadmoor Community Church in San Leandro at' 8 p.m. Friday.The bride is the daughter of the late Mrs. Louise Garrett and of Milton Garrett, 357 Warwick Ave.,-'San Leandro. The benedict is the son . of Mr. and Mrs. Walter James Poole, Sr., of 292 Peralta Ave., of the same city.Given in marriage by ner father, the bride wore • a ballerina length white rosepoint lace over taffeta gown and carried a shower bouquet ox red carnations centered with a white orchid. A sma.il white hat completed her attire.A white lace over lavender taffeta ballerina length dress with a matching picture hat -were worn by Mrs. Marie Cali-fano. matron of honor. She carried a colonial bouquet of pale yellow carnations.Jeanette Califano, daughter of the honor attendant, was flower girl in a nylon net .over taffeta yellow party dress. She carried, a white lace and satin basket of red roses.Jack'Sandfort of San Leandro was best man.The mother of the benedict arrived at the church in a powder blue and white ensemble with white accessories.Her corsage was fashioned of white carnations.The church was decorated for the ceremonies with springy bouquets of*tulips, stock and wisteria. Mrs. Marie Stakow-ski was organist for the ceremonies.Following a late buffet supper held at the bridegroomjs home after the church reception, for relatives and the bridal party, the couple left for a Lake Tahoe honeymoon.Upon their return, they will reside • at 1807 Inwood Dr., Hayward.The bride is a graduate of San Leandro High. School.The benedict, a graduate^of the same high school, attended Oakland Junior College where he studied business acmims-tration.He v/as a charter member of the San Leandro chapter, Or-der of De Molay and alsoserved two years activa duty in Korea, Japan, Hawaii and Alaska with the Navy. _He is employed by Fridcn’s, San. Leandro, .'where he is a supervisor.
